Embracing the Wisdom of Your Body Through Food Choices

When it comes to food, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of diets—carnivore, vegetarian, Mediterranean, keto—the list goes on. Everyone’s got an opinion on what’s best, and honestly, it can be overwhelming. But here’s the thing: there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to nourishment. The truth is, what your body needs can change from day to day, season to season. So, instead of trying to fit yourself into the mold of a specific diet, why not just listen to your body?

I’ve been on this journey long enough to know that my body’s needs aren’t static. They shift and change depending on a multitude of factors—my activity level, the weather, even the energy around me. Some seasons, my body craves heavy protein, and yes, that often means meat. Other times, it’s vegetables that nourish me the most. And once, I went through a phase where my body just wanted watermelon—every single day for weeks. I’m not kidding; I’d devour a personal watermelon daily because that’s what my body needed at the time: cold, easy-to-digest nourishment.

Whole Foods, Simple Choices

I’m not here to advocate for any specific diet, and I definitely don’t think you should stress yourself out trying to follow a strict set of rules. It’s about simplicity. Whole foods are where it’s at. Ask yourself, how many ingredients are in this food? Is it loaded with sugar, dyes, or preservatives? The old saying "shop the exterior of the grocery store" holds a lot of truth. It doesn’t have to be more complicated than that: meat (or your preferred protein), vegetables, fruits. Keep it simple—don’t drown your food in sugars and sauces.

We’ve made food so complicated when it doesn’t need to be. Processed foods, like cereal or protein shakes, might check off the “healthy” box in your mind, but they’re not whole foods. Sure, you’re getting your vitamins and nutrients, but there’s something about real, whole foods that can’t be replicated in a shake. So, if you’re serious about changing your food choices, start by listening to what your body is telling you. It’s the next logical step after you’ve tuned in with your breath and rest.

Resources for the Journey

Now, I’m not saying you have to figure this out all on your own. There are some incredible authors, doctors, and scholars who’ve done the research for you. If you’re eager to dive deeper into the specifics of nutrition, pop over to my "Resources" section. I’ve got some book recommendations, podcasts, and blogs that are definitely worth checking out. Remember, I’m not here to reinvent the wheel; I’m here to guide you along your unique path.
